APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR THE ANNUAL “DANCE IS FOR EVERY BODY!” SHOWCASE
Open to all dance artists, teachers, companies, individuals, studios and schools. Looking for 5 – 15 minute presentations, lecture demonstrations, audience participation activities or mini-classes, work-in-progress, finished dances and short original dance films. Possible opportunity for more than one time slot available on the same day or each day (but not back to back). For more specific information and an application click here.

ANNUAL “DANCE IS FOR EVERY BODY!” SHOWCASE
Boulder Public Library Canyon Theater, 1000 Canyon Blvd., Boulder.
An all day continuous dance showcase, free to the public that is part entertainment, part education and all fun! This annual showcase is a wonderful outreach opportunity for dance artists, teachers, companies, individuals, studios and schools to reach new audiences in 5 – 15 minute presentations, lecture demonstrations, audience participation activities, showing of work-in-progress, finished dances and short original dance films. Audiences are encouraged to come for a little or stay the afternoon. Informal atmosphere, family and artist friendly with a resource table containing information on classes and upcoming seasons also available. • FOLK DANCING for EVERYONE! Tuesday Evenings ongoing through Sept. 9, 7-10 p.m. Outside on the Boulder Farmers' Market Plaza on 13th St. between Arapahoe & Canyon,(next to the Dushanbe Tea House), Boulder. Fun folkdances from around the world are taught & danced each Tuesday evening outside under the stars. There is beginning level teaching with Tom Masterson from 7:00 to 8:00; no partner or experience needed. Dancing continues till 10:00. Cost is FREE! (donations appreciated!) A wonderful way to learn great dances, experience our ethnic and cultural roots, meet lots of new friends, and get into shape, all at the same time! • "BODY AS RESOURCE" Special Workshops, Sat. July 12, 2-5 p.m. Focus on the HEART and LUNGS, Sat. July 26, 2-5 p.m. Focus on the LOWER ORGAN system, Eliot Street collective, 2460 Eliot St., Denver. A safe, playful and rejuvenating series of workshops, study the systems of the body based on the techniques of Body Mind Centering® and Contemplative Movement Practice. Through discussion, image work and movement, students will improve body awareness and make connections into the emotional resources of the body while learning to trust the body's impulse as information for making strong choices for the stage and in life. Class is open to all, some acting/ dance experience is helpful but not necessary in this experiential class. Each class will focus on a different body system - feel free to take a workshop individually. (Just finished -Sat. June 14th 2-5pm: Focus on CELLULAR and SKELETAL systems). • THE POETIC BODY: butoh movement 2 DAY INTENSIVE with Jennifer Hicks, Saturday, July 12, 1-6 p.m. and Sunday, July 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Boulder Circus Center, 4747 N. 26th St. Boulder. Dance with transformative poetic imagery to create your own movement score. Students are asked to bring a short poem to work with during the workshop. Contemporary Butoh can take many forms from a healing modality, psychological physical training to improvisation or structured choreography. But for all Butoh, the dance comes from a place of reshaping. Nothing is ever as we think it is. • THE ART OF THE SOLO: DANCE AND WORDS! WITH KATHARINE KAUFMAN, Wednesday–Sunday, July 30 – Aug. 9am–4:30pm, Contact for location. Part of the summer 2008 Naropa Extended Studies Program. Join Katharine as she teaches what we instinctively know, such as embodying stillness and working with breath, then moves through an organic creation process in which the student learn and cultivate tools for weaving layers of dance, sound and words. Students support and encourage each other,work together as boundaries between performer and audience are investigated. Students deepen themes and are open to “mistakes,” continuing to return to the original simple impulse. Solos may range from literal stories of our lives, passions and dreams to work that is archetypal, post-modern, nonlinear and grounded in the present moment so that by the end of the workshop, each student will have composed and performed their solo. While this class comes from a dance and composition background, it is open to all. Katharine Kaufman's unique artistic craft comes from a creative integration of formal study and professional practice in dance, poetry, Zen and Yoga.
