Artist's Statement
Regarding Portraiture & Figurative Work: With a commitment to well crafted art, Elizabeth Jenny seeks to create a fine portrait of a person to treasure. And with regard to figurative art work Elizabeth Jenny says that "Painting people and other animate beings increases my understanding of our essential nature, both spiritual and physical, which continues to be my primary motivation."
Regarding My Horse Paintings: "A horse is such a thing of beauty
none will tire of looking at him as long as he displays himself in his splendor."-- Xenophon
The horses in my paintings are largely based on horses I have seen in open fields near my house in Boulder County. Some of my inspiration was also taken from Muybridge's historical stop action photos of horses in motion. In my search for local horse imagery, I have stopped at roadside farms as well as my neighbors' lands. Some of the horses I painted were from a riding farm in Erie where my children took riding lessons. I am facinated by horses, whether at rest or in action. I find that horses have a wonderful contained power, nobility and grace. I think that these creatures transport us both physically and spiritually.
My paintings of horses are done in oils, acrylics, pastels and charcoal. I make use of colorful contrasts and bold lines in my compositions. The result is art work that is based in realism and also stylized and open to individual interpretation.
